Why Spring is the Happiest Season
"Happiness? The colour of it must be spring green."

The reasons why Spring brings us happiness are endless. From waking up in daylight and feeling the renewed warmth of the sun on your face, to the joy of birdsong from open windows. All these uplifting re-awakenings of nature are reasons in themselves but is there more to it?
The Science & Symbolism of Spring’s Light
The simple joys of spring—longer days, the feeling of sunlight on our skin, the first hints of green returning—are more than just seasonal changes. They have a direct effect on our wellbeing. More daylight lifts our mood, energising us after the slower, darker months. Sunlight boosts serotonin, the ‘happiness hormone,’ making us feel more positive and alive.
“The whole world about me is becoming brighter with colour, chirpier with every day that passes. To try to flourish, remain positive throughout the short winter days, with the long dark evenings, with the world outside grey and harsh, cold and inhospitable, is often hard, and if prolonged, can be deeply inhibiting to our sense of well-being.”

But beyond science, spring carries a quiet symbolism. The return of light after a season of stillness reminds us that renewal is always just around the corner. Nature awakens in its own time, moving at an unhurried yet steady pace. And perhaps, as part of the natural world, we feel this shift instinctively too.
“We need the daylight and warmth of spring to renew our optimism, to cast away the shadows. And so does the natural world about us. Every creature and plant and tree out there are gradually growing, beginning to fulfil itself, and is rediscovering its purpose in being, to play its part in this new beginning.”

The Awakening of Nature & Ourselves
It’s not just the world around us that stirs—it’s something within us, too. We notice the changes: the birdsong drifting through open windows, the first buds appearing on bare branches, the crispness of morning air softening. These signs of life feel like an invitation. A reminder that we, too, are ready to stretch, to move, to embrace a fresh sense of purpose.
Nature never rushes, yet it never fails to bloom when the time is right. There’s something reassuring in that—a gentle encouragement to allow ourselves to do the same.
Seasons are the tides of our lives. We have to adapt to the rhythm of each day. For so many of us, it's not easy, not natural anymore, we are predominantly urban these days.
We have become distanced from the seasons, as we have from nature herself. For so many reasons, for our well-being, for the planet, we need to revive that connection.

New Energy, New Beginnings
Spring has a way of shifting our energy. We feel the urge to open windows, clear spaces, and step outdoors more often. This sense of renewal isn’t just about our surroundings—it’s about how we feel within ourselves. Creativity stirs, ideas take shape, and the natural world provides quiet inspiration in every small, beautiful change.
Whether it’s through art, writing, gardening, or simply spending more time outside, this season encourages us to reconnect—with nature, with creativity, and with a slower, more intentional way of living.
The world is ready now for the next movement of the symphony of the seasons. The year's turned round again. I know the world is troubled and sad, but when I look about me, and breathe in all the wonders, I know too that all shall be well.

As the world awakens, how will you embrace this season of renewal?
For me, it means getting back out to Fairs, Markets and Country shows, to interact and meet customers and fellow artisans and small brands. Emerging from our winter hibernation and it’s slower days, ready to grow and greet the new season
You can always keep up to date with my events here I regularly update the calendar so do check where I’m going to be, I’d love to see you
The longer days and sunlit evenings always encourage creativity and energy so I’m looking forward to time drawing, creating new ranges and developing ideas as well as making the most of days outside soaking up inspiration. You can find my latest best sellers and new ranges here.
But a big focus for me this year is simply going to be intentionally waking all my senses and connecting to & appreciating the beauty of the world waking up.
